The Montsant wine appellation was set up in 2002 and is made up of the villages and wineries which up until that year had been part of the “Falset subzone” of the Tarragona wine appellation. The DO Montsant has since then experienced spectacular growth. If at the time when it was created, the DO had 28 member wineries, it now has over fifty. Nearly 70% of the D.O.’s bottled production is exported (mainly to Germany and the United States). The D.O. Montsant covers 2,000 hectares (4,942 Acres) of vineyards and grape production is around 10 million kilos.
