The wines of the DO Montsant are governed by the Regulatory council or body. This body is made up of representatives of the wine world: vine-growers, winery owners and also the public sector. The council’s mission is to guarantee the quality and also the type of wines of this region. The “Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya” (Catalan Autonomous Government Official Bulletin/newsletter) on 5th November, 2001, published the specific rules which all wines have to follow in order to be classed within the D.O or wine appellation. These rules were up-dated and published in the DOGC (Official Catalan Autonomous government region Bulletin) on 28th June, 2005 and are currently still valid.
Montsant wines are checked and controlled from the vineyard right until they reach their point of sale. The wines undergo various analytical and sensorial checks in order to achieve the D.O. quality guarantee. This guarantee qualifies the wine as of sufficient quality to be classed within the D.O. Montsant. A panel of wine-tasters is in charge of tasting the wines and officially certifying their quality.
